Any car that goes from 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds belongs to a special class entirely.

What if we told you that such car can also stop from 62mph in just 105 feet? (basically, 3.3 seconds and 100 feet later, you’re back to a complete stop).

While reminiscent of primary school math problems, these facts are not arcane to sports car enthusiasts. Those in the know – all our readers, we reckon – have recognized some specs of the McLaren 570S.

What’s in a name really? Would you expect 570S to elicit much of a response? You would and you should. With or without the brand name, it’s already become a classic, packing no less than 562 horsepower (570 metric horsepower, hence the name), designed according to McLaren’s highest principles of engineering and performance.

From Track to Road: a Model of Drivability

Despite a few negatives, usually uttered head down as if in shame, the McLaren 570S is a car you can enjoy in your commute or at full speed (204mph) on deserted roads.

Not exactly daily commute per se, but the smooth ride makes it a pleasure to drive in town. This exotic car doesn’t deafen you or passerby with an obnoxious roar – more like a loud purr. The 7-speed dual clutch transmission acts like a well-oiled clock, so well-oiled you can barely distinct (i.e. feel) gear shifts.

Do those soft attributes make it the car to drive to and from work? Absolutely not. Doing so would prove very disrespectful to the power that this so-called “entry-level sports car” has to offer.

In true McLaren tradition, such sports car is a race-car. In fact, like Formula1™ and supercar McLarens, it’s made of carbon fiber and designed with the driver in mind.

The driving is intense, the engagement is total. It’s fun to drive without the necessity to speed up over the limit, while still experiencing the brand’s signature thrill. In other words, whether you cruise it or push it, you will have to work for it.

Should you want to check those statistics – going  0-100mph in 6.3 seconds – you would obviously take it to the track. Setting the system to “Track” on the Active Dynamics Panel will ensure you get the best experience based on the road condition. And with the steering wheel shift feature, you can literally go up, up, up, down, down, down with the click of a finger.

We will not list the luxurious features, nor the 20 page-long list of options. McLaren Automotive is all about the details, down to soft-close doors or Bowers & Wilkins 12 speaker branded audio system. If you fancy jet black/almond white seat trim by McLaren Designer, know that it will only be around the price of a Hermes clutch, and less than Porsche’s office chair. These details help keep a check on perspective.

Instead of giving you the grocery-list of what makes the McLaren 570S a prized possession, we suggest you visit us at McLaren San Diego. We’ll be happy to give you a tour.
